Locomotives Keep Breast Cancer Cause Top of Mind Year Round
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 10, 2014 -- Florida East Coast Railway ("FECR") will once again sponsor the Susan G. Komen® North Florida 20th Race for the Cure. The event will be held October 18 at the Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville. Participants can run, walk or jog on either a 2K or 5K course.
“We are pleased to be a part of this important event. Our sponsorship is in honor of our employees, customers, suppliers and the communities we serve who continue to fight for a cure to breast cancer,” said James R. Hertwig, President and CEO of FECR.
“I am elated that Florida East Coast Railway is returning for their second year as our Race for the Cure naming sponsor,” said Delores Wise, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen® North Florida. “Together, FECR and Komen North Florida are addressing the fear, the fight and the cure of breast cancer.”
The company’s support for cancer awareness is also reflected by two FECR locomotives, which have a special paint scheme that includes the pink ribbon symbol associated with the national Susan G. Komen® organization. The locomotives were placed into service last September.
“Every day and in every location where we operate these locomotives, FECR is keeping the need to find a cure for breast cancer visible and top of mind,” said Hertwig.
